Overview[edit]
Marcus was one of Operation GUERRERO's first wave targets for the Free Worlds League, with three regiments assigned to take the world. Realizing that his garrison, outnumbered three to one, would be unable to hold Marcus, the Twelfth FedCom RCT's commander threw his BattleMech regiment against the FWLM force to give the Twelfth's conventional units and planetary government members a chance to escape.[1] [2]
The result was a ruinous engagement between the green Twelfth FedCom and equally raw Seventh Free Worlds Legionnaires, a fight that would earn the nickname the "Battle of Cabot's stand" due to the death of the Seventh's CO General James Cabot. Despite nearly a third of their number being killed or wounded, the Legionnaires successfully held their ground long enough for the Twelfth Atrean Dragoons and Fifth Marik Militia to envelop the FedCom unit as the Fifth Militia's oversized aerospace wing played a key role in ensuring victory for their ground counterparts. As their comrades had managed to escape Marcus by this point, the FedCom MechWarriors surrendered, after inflicting heavy losses on the Dragoons as well.[1] [2] [3] [4]
