Overview[edit]
In August 3068 Wave Three of Operation SOVEREIGN JUSTICE came to New Westin, which fell easily to the Second Cunningham's Commandos.[2][5]
The reversal came swiftly enough however, with New Westin a Wave One target of Operation THUNDERSTRIKE in October. Sometime prior the Jie Fang Legion reinforced New Westin alongside the Commandos. The Fifth Confederation Reserve Cavalry was a combined-arms unit that was tasked to retake the world, with some Death Commando support. Fighting was fierce, especially against the "renegade" Legion. Sao-wei Akbar ibn Rashid commanded a lance that was obliterated by the Legion, but rather than retreat in his Stealth Armor WSP-3L Wasp he charged the heavier ’Mechs and damaged several. As the Lancer formation pivoted he maneuvered his Wasp into the rear of an outdated Archer and charged into its weakened rear armor. The impact detonated the Archer's LRM magazine, killing both pilots. Despite the Cavalry taking heavy losses, they and Death Commandos overran Legions positions and annihilated the unit. The Commandos likewise took significant losses but managed to retreat off world.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Aftermath[edit]
On 28 January 3069, Capellan propaganda sources declared the final destruction of the Legion. The 5th CRC returned to their garrison stations and focused on rebuilding from the heavy losses. Though Sao-wei ibn Rashid perished, his Wasp was salvaged and returned to the CRC's roles.[4][1][6]
