The Bell system was the location of at least one habitable world, Bell X, and as of 3145 was located in the Kathil Operational Area of the Capellan March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Bell is located close to the Foot Fall and Highspire systems[2][3] and consisted of a class A8V primary orbited by at least ten planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Bell system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra and by the early twenty-fourth century was a member of the Capellan Hegemony.[4]

Bell X, more commonly known simply as Bell, is the tenth planet in the Bell system and has three moons named Dhammazedi, Mingun, and Rovereto. Bell has been contested repeatedly during its history as an inhabited world and has been home to significant defense manufacturing facilities.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

As a world within the Capellan Hegemony, Bell was subject to heavy attacks from hired Kluanian pirates in 2305. Hired by the Sarna Supremacy, the pirates inflicted heavy damage on a number of Capellan border worlds, forcing the Hegemony to constantly redeploy troops to defend its worlds rather than continuing to stage attacks on Sarna.[4]

At some point after the end of the war, Bell became a member of the Chesterton Trade Federation; Bell then changed hands again later during the absorption of the Trade Federation by the Sarna Supremacy.[5] In 2357, a large force from the Federated Peacekeeping Forces landed on Bell and claimed it in the name of the Federated Suns, with Prime Minister Reynard Davion also demanding that the Supremacy cede the worlds of Chesterton and Highspire to the Federated Suns.[5] The Supremacy had no choice but to comply;[5] the Sarna garrison had been easily overrun, and the use of atomic weapons had been threatened to enforce the Federated Suns claim to the three worlds.[6] A combined relief force from the Capellan Commonality, Sarna Supremacy and Tikonov Grand Union arrived at Bell in 2358 to recapture the world,[6] only to discover that the entire civilian population had disappeared.[6][44]

First Succession War[edit]

The Andoran Industries, Limited facilities manufacturing the CLNT-2-3T Clint BattleMech, along with original design blueprints and production records, were destroyed in 2812 from fighting between House Davion and House Liao forces.[45] During the fighting for the planet between the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns ended with several bombing attacks that reduced the cities to rubble. The only remining resource was water, and to defend it, the Capellan forces deployed ten Clint 'Mechs in the urban centers proving their worth and helping to keep the planet.[46]

Second Succession War[edit]

Bell was one of five secondary target worlds attacked by the AFFS in 2833 during Operation LEOPARD as supporting efforts to the primary assault on Tikonov by the Ceti Hussars. Bell, along with Lee, turned into meat grinders, with neither CCAF or AFFS forces securing a decisive advantage, resulting in the eventual withdrawal of Davion troops. The massive loss of life on both sides became a "cause célèbre" in the Federated Suns as the poster child for feckless waste of troops and equipment.[47]
