The Bhykov system was the location of at least one habitable world or construct and as of 2750 was located in the St. Ives Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Bhykov system is located close to the Denbar and Milos systems.[2]

System History[edit]

The Bhykov system was colonized at some point during the Star League era after the end of the Reunification War.[3][2] Bhykov vanished from maps during the First Succession War[4][5] indicating that the system had been abandoned or depopulated.

Planetary History[edit]

Bhykov was settled during the era of the Star League, but even then, it was considered an unusually harsh world to colonize. Bhykov possess a high pressure atmosphere rich in methane, frequent storms and limited options for fresh water. It also contains abundant surface deposits of salt, lead and iron, resulting in a surface with an eerie (or golden) yellow glow. Most early settlements on Bhykov were established as mines or chemical refineries, and consisted of surface domes and subterranean vaults for the workers. In the 2600s the populace began constructing mobile, floating cities that could process the planet's oceans into drinkable water and use the more fertile silt of the ocean floor for hydroponic farms. This upset the local ecosystem and revealed yet another danger to the settlers, the world's aggressive aquatic megafauna. Bhykov's residents defended their cities against krakenoid titanopods with fields of mines and submersible combat vehicles, but eventually the local life triumphed as the First Succession War cut off the shipments of weapons needed to keep them from sinking Bhykov's cities. Vital life support technologies also could no longer be sourced, leading to the Capellan Confederation to formally abandon the world in the 2810s.[24]

By 3152, Bhykov's inhabitants have been reduced to a small population of hunters and gatherers who live in the ruins of their ancestors settlements. The floating cities have either sunk or, in a few cases, drifted to shore and become partially submerged. The locals use primitive means to mitigate the effects of the toxic atmosphere, and live off local plants or fish from the world's rivers and lakes.[25]

Notes[edit]

  • Bhykov is one of several planets Ghosts of Obeedah listed as an option for being the location of Obeedah, one of the Word of Blake's Hidden Five. Which world truly plays host to Obeedah was left undetermined in the sourcebook. If Bhykov is Obeedah, the information presented in this article about the world's history will be incomplete, and information about it's state in 3152 will be incorrect.
