Braxton Xu was a notable WiGE commander in McCarron's Armored Cavalry during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History[edit]
In May 3134, elements of McCarron's Armored Cavalry and Warrior House Dai Da Chi became bogged down in the fighting against the Republic of the Sphere's Principes Guards on Palos. In particular, two companies of Republic BattleMechs were using the bayous of the Grael River Delta to tie down three times as many Capellan Confederation machines. When weather finally permitted it, a force of VTOLs and conventional aerial fighters moved into the bayou with a supporting battalion of Capellan 'Mechs followed. The Guards established their defenses along the only passable stretch of terrain and quickly dealt the Capellan 'Mechs nine losses while ceding only two kilometers of ground, with the Guards' supporting aerospace fighters scattering the Capellans' own aerial support. When the Guards' fighters disengaged in order to refuel, Sang-wei Xu's platoon of WiGEs split from the main attacking force and struck against the Republic's flank.[2][3]
Using their machines to easily overcome the bayou's natural obstacles, Xu's men quickly outmaneuvered their heavier opponents without any fear of aerial assault. Even after the Guards tasked a lance of their fastest 'Mechs to destroy Xu's platoon, the Capellan vehicles continued to strike the Guards from behind before fading back into the swamp. After two hours of hit-and-fade attacks, the Republic warriors were in disarray and only half of their machines remained in position to fight against the Capellan battalion. When the Guards' commander ordered a withdrawal, Xu forced them into a complete route by racing to the other end of the swamp and putting the enemy's supply depot under direct threat of attack. The end of the fighting gave the Capellans direct access to the M7 Expressway and forced the Guards to retreat 100 kilometers to the planetary capital—a state of affairs that would ultimately lead to Palos' conquest three weeks later.[2][3]
For his actions during the fighting on Palos, Xu was later awarded the Liao Sunburst of Gallantry. He saw further fighting against the Republic on St. Andre, where he lost his left arm below the elbow, but survived long enough to participate in the fighting for New Aragon. On that world, he was recorded as scoring one kill and three assisted kills against enemy machines.[1]
