History[edit]

Brian Lossey took command of Beta Galaxy after the death of its commanding officer, John Rosse during the invasion of Irece, location of LexaTech Industries.

John Rosse issued a batchall, and Tai-sa Basil Itemji correctly declaring his intention to defend the world with his entire force or die trying. Despite John Rosse's subordinates fomenting to be allowed the bid for the right to attack, Rosse suspected Spheroid trickery and chose to attack with his entire Galaxy.[1]

Despite the 18th Dieron Regulars's track record for urban combat, Tai-sa Itemji chose to initiate the battle far from the LexaTech plant, setting up hardened defenses and extensive artillery far from the factory, with only a token force preparing the site for any last stands. Cautiously landing just out range of the Eighteenth's artillery forces, the Nova Cat's OmniFighters quickly gained air superiority and destroyed the artillery before they could fire a single shot as the Cat's OmniMechs engaged the Kurita forces.[1]

While switching to concentrated fire when the 18th refused to engage in Clan style single combat, the Nova Cat warriors pushed the retreating Regulars back to their second stand near a small natural crater. When the 179th Striker Cluster followed the east flank of the Kurita retreat, the 18th succeeded in nearly decimated the entire Cluster when the Nova Cats found themselves caught between a split assault emerging from hidden positions.[1]

By the fourth day an increasingly desperate Rosse ordered a Star of Elementals to perform a headhunter strike against the Eighteenth's command center, only for a native animal known as a Squawk to give away their approach, allowing Tai-sa Itemji and his command to destroy the Elementals at their cost of their cover, fighting a running battle with the rest of Beta as they withdrew again. Taking a leaf from this attack, Tai-sa Itemji ordered the 412th DEST Company attached to the 18th to launch headhunter strike against the Nova Cat's command Trinary, the element of surprise allowing the DEST troops to eliminate 20 Clan 'Mechs, including John Rosse and his command staff before they were killed.[1]

Star Colonel Brian Lossey took command of Beta Galaxy, and building on his fallen predecessor's original battle plan systematically weakened the Dieron Regulars through a series of raids, forcing them to fall back further and further to the doorstep of the LexaTech factory. When Star Colonel Lossey sent a Trinary to strike the facility directly, Tai-sa Itemji played his last card and wiped the unit out with an artillery strike; their position revealed, the artillery was wiped out by Nova Cat air attacks. In their final stand on the grounds of the factory itself the surviving Dieron Regulars planned to use explosives throughout the complex in one final bid to deny the asset to the Nova Cats. However, Star Colonel Lossey had suspected such a plan and dispatched Elemental teams to disarm the devices, largely succeeding in their task. The remnants of the Eighteenth were finally crushed and the planet, along with the vital factory, fell to the Nova Cats.[1]

Although the Combine feared LexaTech's LAMs would soon be turned against them by the Nova Cats, information came in just weeks after the planet's fall that the factory had been razed to the ground. The Clans in general viewed the concept of the Land-Air 'Mech as an abomination, being not quite a 'Mech or a fighter and so unfit for use. Clan Nova Cat had felt the same way and fought hard to take the planet so it would have the personal pleasure of destroying the facility themselves. According to some reports Nova Cat warriors were seen melting the computer chips necessary for LAM functionality by hand.[1]
