History[edit]
Amaris Civil War[edit]
The Burning Tygers were a mercenary unit around the time of the Amaris coup. They occupied the world of Helen for the Amaris Empire where they ransacked the world's huge artistic community and outright murdered at least a hundred thousand civilians during the occupation, razing whole cities and taking everything of value for themselves.[1]
When Helen was reconquered by the Star League Defense Force under Aleksandr Kerensky in 2772, the XXXIV Corps gave the mercenary defenders no quarter and by 2773 had nearly wiped them out.[2]
When the SLDF attacked Terra, the third task force, assigned to secure the spaceports, found itself under attack from the Burning Tygers and the Seventeenth Amaris Lancers Division were in London and struck at the arriving SLDF formations. After more SLDF troops arrived, they forces the Amaris troops out of the spaceport into London itself. After the mercenaries tried to escape crossing a river, they were accused of cowardice by their allies, the Seventeenth Amaris Lancers Division. Only after some days, the SLDF attacked the London defenders and finally wiped the mercenaries out.[3]
Context strongly implies that the Burning Tygers were among the roughly eight divisions of mercenaries that Stefan Amaris used to secure his iron grip over the realm after his coup, though who technically hired them is not mentioned.
