Category talk:Nagelring Alumni

Deletion[edit]

I am not happy with this category in principle, I believe it sets a precedent for needless category bloat. This could be better served with a "notable alumni" section in each academy article.--Dmon (talk) 08:25, 28 April 2023 (EDT)

Most of them only have a few notable alumni, to the point where you can count them on one hand. So usually that would work. This isn't the case for the Nagelring, NAIS and Sun Zhang, though.--ReinhardtSteiner (talk) 13:04, 28 April 2023 (EDT)
Could we do standalone list articles for the alumni of the larger academies, which link off their main article page? That would seem far cleaner than more ad-hoc categories, which I agree with Dmon we should be avoiding. --HF22 (talk) 08:11, 29 April 2023 (EDT)
I thought we were moving in the other way with that, since that's how notable mech pilots used to work, but we've moved all those into categories.--ReinhardtSteiner (talk) 13:27, 1 May 2023 (EDT)
The move away from notable Mechwarriors into a category rather than having them listed in the 'Mech article is more to do with historical issues with fanon, self insertions and a general vague defenition of what qualifies as a character notable. I don't think the academy articles would have quite the same appeal. I would not be against standalone alumni articles, What I think could be workable would be a "Class of xxxx" list that works in a similar way to the composition sections in Command articles and the deployment section of system articles. This could be implemented in the academy articles and broken off into standalone articles as needed.
My main issue is in the absence of a clear article tree they could fit into, but that applies to both suggested methods of handling it.--Dmon (talk) 14:23, 1 May 2023 (EDT)
