Chuong Spade was a mercenary and former Capellan Confederation Armed Forces soldier.[1]

History[edit]

Chuong Spade had a varied career; during his youth, he managed a chain of fast-food restaurants on Hsien before deciding to join the merchant marine. Chuong worked his way up through the ranks until he was serving as the captain of a Triumph-class DropShip, before deciding to quit and enlist in a MechWarrior academy at the age of 37. Chuong served briefly in the Capellan Confederate Reserves before forming the mercenary unit Spade's Brigade.[1]

Chuong was an eloquent and charismatic individual, notable for his exotic appearance; Chuong typically kept his hair patterned in a brightly colored mohawk that contrasted with whatever he was wearing, and while on duty always wore a well-groomed uniform - a distinct contrast to his slovenly approach to casual attire. His business skills and the Brigade's steady track record allowed him to gain a contract from the Outworlds Alliance[1] during the brief period of time in which the Alliance charter was amended to allow the Alliance Military Corps tp hire mercenaries. Several mercenary commands subsequently joined the AMC as state units, but Spade's Brigade weren't successful enough to join their numbers, despite a good performance against pirates from the Tortuga Dominions in defense of the planet Jordan Wais.[1][2]

Chuong continued to focus on expanding the Brigade after the contract with the Outworlds Alliance had ended, relocating to Port Krin[1] and then Antallos,[3] hiring from out-of-luck mercenary units to add to the Brigade's numbers. The Brigade were reported as having been being overrun by two Trinaries from the Sixth Raven Battle Cluster during the defense of the city-state of Lexicon in November 3067 and were listed as a destroyed command by the Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission;[1] it is unknown if Chuong survived.

Notes[edit]

Although Mercenaries Supplemental described Chuong as raising Spade's Brigade, The Periphery, Second Edition[4] and Field Manual: Mercenaries[5] list a Janey Spade as Commanding Officer of the Brigade in 3058 and 3059. It is unknown at this time as to what the relationship between these two characters was, if any.
