The Clan Jade Falcon touman is the military arm of Clan Jade Falcon.

Unit Structure[edit]
Up through to the Refusal War, the Jade Falcons largely followed the standard Clan practice of organizing their Clusters. Front-line Clusters were comprised of three OmniMechs Trinaries, one Elemental Trinary and one OmniFighter Trinary, with some variation between units. Second-line Clusters varied greater in composition, between two to four Trinaries or three to five Binaries. They largely maintained the same level of equipment as in front-line units, with some second-line or even Inner Sphere refitted machines making appearances.[1] Although the Jade Falcons made use of Nova and Supernova formations, they were formed on an as-needed basis.[2]
In comparison, garrison and solahma units had few Omni machines, instead making due with traditional BattleMechs and aerospace fighters. They also made due with conventional infantry instead of Elementals. With the exception of armored personnel carriers to transport infantry into battle, even these units deployed no combat vehicles.[1]
In the aftermath of the Refusal War, the same unit organization remained in place, but due to heavy losses most units were terribly understrength. On the whole the touman had been reduced to just ten Galaxies, and on average each Trinary and Binary was short one Star compared to their official TO&E. Many Clusters and Galaxies also saw their compositions changed drastically since before the invasion of the Inner Sphere while still retaining the same designations, leading to confusion by outside observers about just which units were actually participating in a battle. It was expected though that all units would be back to their full strength by the time the invasion was renewed.[1]
The Jade Falcons were also notable in the way they organized individual Stars, with the following giving their name and type.[3]
Type | Information |
---|---|
Com | Command Star (Cluster & Galaxy command units) |
Talon | Assault Star (heavy to assault weight BattleMechs) |
Beak | Battle Star (medium to heavy weight BattleMechs) |
Eye | Striker Star (light to medium weight BattleMechs) |
Eyrie | Mixed Weight Star (Sometimes classified as Beak) |
Strider | Elemental Star |
Wing | Aerospace Star |
Nova | Nova (5 'Mech & 5 Elemental Points) |
Mix | Nonstandard Star (Combines different Point types) |
Additionally, some Stars and Trinaries were further classified by their mission type.[3]

Jade Falcon Unit Designation Code[edit]
The JFUDC was the code by which Jade Falcon Stars were classified and used as a way of communicating messages with each other. The code itself consisted of three parts: the first was a four-character alphanumeric combination signifying the Star's parent Galaxy, Cluster, and Trinary/Binary in that order. The second part was by their Star composition as listed the table above. The third was the number designation which helped distinguished Stars of the same composition from each other. The full code was only used when communicating with Stars in separate Galaxy, with portions being dropped off as needed, right down to Stars within the same Trinary/Binary (although in such cases it was common for Jade Falcon warriors to informally identify the Star by its Star Commander).[3]
Example: "G7RD Beak 2" translates to the second Beak Star of Trinary Delta, 7th Falcon Regulars, Gamma Galaxy. If a unit from Gamma Galaxy but in a different Cluster were to communicate with them, they would use only 7RD Beak 2. Same if they were in the same Cluster but in a different Trinary (D Beak 2). If both units were in the same Trinary they would simply use the last two parts of the code (Beak 2).

[edit]
The naval forces available have seen increased use among the Jade Falcons, both for surface bombardment and as weapons of mass destruction. The lack of assault dropships gives the Falcons few escorts, and the Reserve is vulnerable to space interception.

Uniforms and Rank Insignia[edit]
Combat Dress Uniforms
MechWarriors wear a short sleeved, emerald green jumpsuit made out of fire-resistant material, combined with black knee-length, fire-proof boots. Rank and Cluster insignias are attached on the right chest. A lightweight neurohelmet completes the outfit.
Aerospace pilots wear an all-in-one coverall, emerald-green and of the same material as the MechWarrior suit, though the aerospace version is airtight with long sleeves and legs. When combined with the neuro/breather helmet, this uniform allows the pilot to survive in vacuum. Gloves and boots may be detached for the wearer's comfort when he or she is outside the aerospace craft. Over this is worn, a G-suit. Rank and unit insignias appear on the left side of the chest. Naval crews wear a similar uniform, but without the G-suit.
Clan Elementals wear only their cooling sock and battle armor. Conventional infantry wear a green version of the field uniform with ballistic armor plates and webbing. Rank and unit insignias are worn on the helmet and right side of the chest.[14]
Field Uniform
Worn away from combat, the Jade Falcon field uniform is black with emerald piping on the shoulders, sleeves, and legs. A reversible half-cape (one side black, the other vegetation camouflage) attaches to the shoulder of the field jacket; tough black boots protect the wearer's feet and lower legs. A helmet of "Clan Copper" with painted eyes and a beak-like nose guard protects against melee weapons and small-arms fire. The helmet contains a short-range radio system and goggles with a tactical head-up display (HUD) system. Rank insignia is worn on the collar.
The field uniforms worn by cadets are lime green.
With the technician caste serving on WarShips and JumpShips, the cape is replaced by a black utility belt.[15]
Dress Uniform
Reserved for more formal situations, the Jade Falcon dress uniform consist of a jacket with a black chest piece, with green breasts and arms along with emerald piping. A bright yellow collar and the "Falcon's Talons" - three bright yellow slashes on the shoulder complete the jacket. The trousers are green and black with emerald piping, tucked into knee-high black boots. A long emerald green cloak, lined with yellow, completes the uniform.
The cadet variant of the dress uniform follows the same pattern, but with red piping on the sleeves and legs, and with a red-lined instead of yellow-lined cloak. Rank Insignias are worn on the collar. Trueborns wear the engraved belt buckle denoting there service branch, while freeborns and second-line trueborns do not. Both wear a blackened metal belt buckle of the Jade Falcon insignia instead.
As with technicians, they do not wear the cape.[15]
Ceremonial Uniform
The Jade Falcon ceremonial uniform come in two variations: for those with a Bloodname and those who lack one. The standard uniform for those who lack a Bloodname, is an emerald green jumpsuit with knee-high black boots and a Jade Falcon ceremonial mask - an oversized replica of a jade falcon head made from Kevlar. For those that have a Bloodname, a three-quarter-length cape is worn, made from jade falcon feathers.[15]
Variations[edit]
With the fracture of Clan Jade Falcon as a whole during the Dark Ages and ilClan Era, the uniforms, colors and styles were split between each supporter.
Faction | Description |
---|---|
Traditionalists | Jade Falcon Traditionalists retain their green uniforms of the past. |
Mongol Supporter | During the Dark Age Era, Clan Jade Falcon would undergo a drastic change among their Clan. After the defeat of Khan Jana Pryde, Malvina Hazen would become the primary user of the Mongol Doctrine. Supporters of this doctrine would wear a black variation of the Jade Falcon Uniforms.[16] |
Jiyi Chistu's Falcons | With Jiyi Chistu's iterations of the Falcons, dress uniforms included neckties and more formal wear, a departure from the Mongol uniforms and ways of the past. [17] |
