The Commonwealth Mining Corporation (CMC)[See Notes] was a Lyran Commonwealth corporation active during the Star League era until the Second Succession War.[1][2][3]
Overview[edit]
Its existence stretching as far back as the Age of War, the Commonwealth Mining Corporation featured numerous mining and extraction sites with at least twenty-six Commonwealth Mining Operations/Outposts (C.M.O.s) scattered across the Lyran Commonwealth and neighboring realms like the Rim Worlds Republic. These ranged from simple mines on already inhabited worlds to systems the company effectively controlled entirely.[1][2][3]
The company played a minor role in Operation PROMETHEUS, the Lyran Commonwealth's successful attempt to obtain BattleMech technology from the Terran Hegemony, with the Lyran Intelligence Corps team landing on Hesperus II using falsified identification papers supplied by CMC claiming they were off-world workers for the company's mining site there.[4]
The Commonwealth Mining Corporation would survive the collapse of the Star League and the maelstrom of the First Succession War, while the output of its mining operations was vital to the war effort and a number of its sites were bombed as part of scorched earth efforts, mines in general were far easier to replace if destroyed compared to BattleMech factories and shipyards so the Draconis Combine and Free Worlds League largely focused their attentions on the later. Like many companies that relied on large scale interstellar transport, the biggest impact to the company's operations during this time period was the mass annihilation of JumpShips.[1][2]
The Commonwealth Mining Corporation would ultimately collapse during the Second Succession War into scandal, its assets broken up and sold off. On worlds and in systems like the future Gulf Breeze that relied almost solely upon CMC for their entire economy, efforts were undertaken to nationalize the company's assets faster than the liquidators could act.[2][3]

- C.M.O. 26 - Uninhabitable mineral rich system renamed Gulf Breeze following CMC's collapse.[2][3][5][6]
