Description[edit]
The Corx Mobile Tunnel Miner has been the mainstay of interstellar exploration and mining operations since New Earth was established as a colony. Their designs have changed very little over the nearly a millennium since their inception in 2420. They can be found near almost all major mining operations or colonization efforts.[1][2] For example they were found on Iron Land in the employ of Commonwealth Metals.[4]
The Jihad left New Earth heavily damaged by the Word of Blake. As a result, though Terex-Schaeff can maintain existing Corx units, production of new units has halted.[5]
Equipment and Capabilities[edit]
The Corx Mobile Tunnel Miner is capable of hauling up to 16.8 tons of liquid, which is connected to the sprayers spread across its chassis. They are used to keep the drilling equipment from overheating due to friction. In addition, the MTM comes standard with full environmental sealing and an amphibious chassis modification, enabling it to work in adverse conditions such as underwater or on an asteroid.[1][2]
The MTM is equipped with a turret, which contains the mining drill as well as two small lasers more suitable for mining than defense, as an attacker at laser range would be far more threatened by the rock cutter or drill.[1][2]
Variants[edit]
There are very few variants on the Terex-Schaeff MTM design, since it has proven so effective at its task.[1][2]
Design Quirks[edit]
The Corx Mobile Tunnel Miner is subject to the following Design Quirk:[2]
