Description[edit]
The Crucible was introduced during the Wolf Empire's drive to Terra. It is a dedicated defensive asset usable by solahma to protect the touman's supply lines. Developed from the Stone Rhino, the 54 km/h max speed and 90 meter jump range allow the Crucible to keep up with the logistical units it protects. The Crucible can also be produced in the same Keystone factory as the Tomahawk II.[2]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
Designed to inflict the largest amount of damage in the fastest amount of time, the Crucible carries a Gauss rifle and sixteen rounds of ammunition for each cannon in each arm and side torso. These can remove just under four tons of standard armor if all four cannons hit. Though the twelve double heat sinks are more than enough to sustain the Gauss rifle fire, the additional heat sinks allow the Crucible pilot to ignore heat from plasma weapons and Inferno rounds. A Micro Pulse Laser is also fitted for anti-infantry operations. Fifteen tons of standard armor covers the chassis.
To free room and weight for this equipment the Crucible uses an XL engine and Endo Steel chassis.[2]
Variants[edit]
- Crucible 2
- This Crucible retains the torso mounted Gauss rifles, but each arm carries an ER PPC and an Artemis V FCS-enhanced LRM-15 with 240 missiles per launcher. A Coolant Pod is in the center torso, supplementing the fourteen double heat sinks. BV (2.0) = 3,598[4]
- Crucible 3
- The standard Gauss rifles have been replaced by HAG/20 cluster-firing gauss weapons. The Crucible carries six rounds of ammunition for each of the HAGs. Supplementing this firepower is a Large Pulse Laser in each side torso. To protect against HAG explosions, CASE II is fitted to each side torso. BV (2.0) = 3,230[5]
