Damocles Commando Team One was a commando team and a prominent part of Operation DAMOCLES. They fell under the overall command of the Second Star League Defense Force's Task Force Serpent[1]
History[edit]
After the pacification of Huntress, Galaxy Commander Brendon Corbett would call all remaining forces to the humble planet of Tranquil. [1]
Prince Victor Davion and Task Force BULLDOG could only spare six commando teams to counter the rogue Galaxy Commander. The first of these Commando Teams, Damocles One, was headed by former Davion Heavy Guard member Lieutenant Connor Sinclair, with Dominic Paine, Tessa McCaughnell, and Keith Andrew under his command. During the operation, Damocles One was tasked with harassing operations in the Smoke Jaguar territory, until Prince Davion could come support their operation after the events on Strana Mechty, or at the very least, soften the Jaguar forces and let Clan Wolf finish them off. Damocles One and the other two teams on the Black Hammer would be inserted via Stealth Parachutes onto a small peninsula towards the southern half of Tranquil, where they would find and destroy multiple Smoke Jaguar cities and facilities, primarily a suspected 'Mech production facility. They would then be picked up and go home. [1]
As the Black Hammer dropped into a low orbit and the Commando teams began deploying, it was struck by multiple naval-grade laser towers, destroying it. Multiple Commando teams were lost, with only a couple successfully deploying parachutes and making it to the surface. [2]
Connor would successfully make landfall near a small fishing village not far from the intended drop point. He would begun making his way towards his intended objectives, carving a path of destruction along the way. Connor, along with his MFB unit commanded by Corporal Thomas Sorenson, would make contact with Dominic Paine, who was making his way towards the suspected 'Mech production facility. [3]
After linking up, Connor and Dominic would assault the production plant together, and after a duel with an Orion, find out that the production plant was nothing more than a facade, made of wood. With no rescue in sight, and positive intelligence about real production facilities in Team Two's operation area, Connor and Dominic pushed forward to accomplish those objectives next. [2]
The body of Tessa McCaughnell would be found inside of her Crusader, half submerged in the ground, implying her parachute malfunctioned. [2]
Sorenson would later make contact with Epona Rhi from Damocles Team Three and Keith Andrew from Team One. Keith was on the run from Smoke Jaguar patrols to the north, and unable to make his way towards Connor and Dominic. Epona Rhi was making her way towards the factory, and would link up with Damocles One there. [4]
After destroying the favility and pushing further north into Operation Area Three, the team had come under significant fire from a Smoke Jaguar garrison force. They would be bailed out by Allen Matilla, of Commando Team Three, in a Sunder. Now at full lance strength, they continue pushing north towards Keith Andrew and the wreck of the Black Hammer. [5]
After pushing towards and through Durghan City, the ad-hoc lance would descend into a valley, surrounded on all sides by heavy and assault 'Mechs, and laser towers. The plan was for Keith Andrews, who had pushed towards their position, to provide artillery support from his Arrow VI-equipped Catapult and clear the large gate blocking their exit. However, Keith had come under fire from the pursuing Smoke Jaguar forces and would risk giving his position away if he fired. Keith, understanding this risk, fired on the gate anyway, sacrificing himself to rescue Connor and his team. He would die shortly after. [6]
Connor's team would have to find a shuttle to ferry them to the Eclipse, the only remaining DropShip from the initial Operation. They would accept a batchall from Galaxy Commander Corbett and duel him for the last remaining shuttle. They would emerge victorious, and escape off world, as Clan Wolf would enter the battlefield to pick off any survivors. [7]
Tactics[edit]
The Damocles Commando would be forced into a very hit-and-run style strategy, mostly due to their limited resources and nonexistent support. They would scavenge BattleMechs and resources, refitting their own equipment as they went.
