Dane Cooper was the temporary commanding officer of the Third FedCom RCT during the late War of 3039.[2]

Leftenant General Cooper, serving in a task force comprised of the Third FedCom RCT and Fifth Davion Guards, participated in the Federated Suns' invasion of Sadalbari during the first wave of the War of 3039. At one point in the initial fighting for the planet, Cooper was placed in charge of the occupied Xantal Military Reservation but otherwise played no part in the conflict.[1] When the Third FedCom was later crushed during the Seventh and Eighth Ghost Regiments' counter-invasion, Cooper was chosen to replace Major General Anya Tam as commander of the shattered unit by task force commander Marshal Vernon Cunningham. Partnered with the talented Colonel Jack Roberts, Cooper was tasked with regathering the Third FedCom's scattered survivors in order to return the unit to the fight for control of Sadalbari. While Cooper was ultimately successful in accomplishing this mission, the battle for Sadalbari had been effectively lost for the Federated Suns and and the task force withdrew from the planet on 14 October.[2]
