The Dark Horns was a mercenary unit known to be active in the years immediately prior to the Clan Invasion.[1]
History[edit]
The Dark Horns were one of a number of smaller mercenaries who were paradoxically employed by the Draconis Combine in the 3040's despite Coordinator Takashi Kurita's infamous "Death to Mercenaries" edict. Even with the Combine's public "anti-mercenary" stance, the Coordinator's son and Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita held more pragmatic views. Making use of contracts subsidized by ComStar as part of Operation ROSEBUD and secretly routed through Matabushi Incorporated to mask them from the Coordinator and his hardliner supporters, small units of "independent contractors" like the Dark Horns were employed for minor missions such as pirate hunting or garrison duty on interior worlds which would unwittingly place them right in the path of the attacking Clan invaders.[1]
Stationed on Sawyer as of May 3050, the world was conquered by Clan Smoke Jaguar as part the Second Wave of Operation Revival. Over the course of two days the Dark Horns faced the Supernova Battle of the 225th Jaguar Battle Cluster. The first day of battle was spent by the Elementals of Alpha Nova hunting for the mercenaries, who had dug in in the Posit Woods east of the capital. When they discovered them early on the second day, the Elementals succeeded in driving the Dark Horns out of the lightly wooded area and straight into the waiting guns of the Supernova's OmniMechs.[2]
