The Democratic Republic of Rand was one of the Pentagon Powers, a collection of warlord states living in the ruins of the Star League in Exile. Rand occupied a portion of Arcadia's eastern continent.[1]
History[edit]
The Democratic Republic of Rand, sometimes referred to as the Rand Republic, was a society patterned off the Capellan Confederation. The Republic was the largest, most belligerent and most autocratic state in its neighbourhood. Republic governors were allowed to govern largely as they saw fit, but most of the Republic's military answered directly to the central government so they had few forces to call upon. The heart of Rand was the former planetary capital Rivera, which they had renamed to Tian-to.[1]
Unfortunately for the Republic, their many advantages over their neighbours meant they were the first in their region to face the Clan onslaught. After Clans Blood Spirit and Steel Viper finished their conquest of the Confederation of Arcadia to the west, they used their DropShips to move their forces directly to Tian-to's still functioning spaceport. The capital of the Republic fell quickly, but the Clans would have to put down an uprising and three Republic counter-offensives before the onset of east Arcadia's stormy season forced a temporary lull in the fighting.[1]
The Clans advanced slowly during the stormy season, but Rand's rival states of Helgren County and the Kingdom of Surev were used to operating in the storms and used the opportunity to descend upon the weakened Republic. Once the weather cleared few Republic territories were left standing, and when the Clans seized the final regional capital of Daijin the Republic ceased to exist.[1]
