Plot Summary[edit]
Captain Ross McKinnon is ambushed and kidnapped by a mysterious woman who introduces herself as Ella. She makes Ross a job offer on behalf of her secret master to fight Word of Blake as part of a coalition that is being put together. When he refuses Ross is drugged again and dumped for the rest of his unit to find.
Several days later McKinnon's Company lands on the Word of Blake held world of Algol as part of Operation EXORCISM. The aim of the operation is to destroy McAllister Industries munitions manufacturing facilities thus denying their supply to WoB forces. McKinnon's forces are intercepted by Ella once again, who herds the unit into discovering a WoB Prisoner of War camp where Armed Forces of the Federated Suns troops have been murdered. Before WoB forces arrive and force Ross to retreat, Ella renews the offer of her master to join his coalition against Word of Blake.

Notes[edit]
- ^ The first scene of the story is stated to take place in the city of Cord on Arescha, this is a typo and actually meant to be Alrescha.
- ^ Even though it is not explicitly stated, there are strong indications that Ella's secret master is Chandrasekhar Kurita. Accordingly, Steven Mohan Jr. continues the story arc in the short story Hunter of the Yellow Bird with the recruitment of Sorenson's Sabres for Kurita's coalition force.
- ^ The later published sourcebook Jihad Secrets: The Blake Documents provides a full name for Ella as one Ella Grigorev and also stipulates that she did sacrifice herself to ensure McKinnon's withdrawal.[2]
