The Desolate Plains system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as of 2750 was located in the Taygeta Operational Area of the Capellan March within the Federated Suns.[1]

The Desolate Plains system is located near the Brockway and Lindsay systems.[1]

System History[edit]

The Desolate Plains system was either colonized by the Taurian Concordat at some point during or shortly before the Age of War or was an already-inhabited system that became significant enough during this era for Inner Sphere nations to begin recording its location on maps.[2][3][4] Desolate Plains vanished from maps during the First Succession War,[3][5] indicating that the system had been abandoned, depopulated or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording.

Reunification War[edit]

Like the majority of the Taurian Concordat systems, Desolate Plains was conquered by the Star League Defense Force during the Reunification War campaign against the Concordat, which the SLDF dubbed Operation BULL RUN. Desolate Plains was spared the immense death toll and destruction that many other Taurian worlds suffered, however; this was due to General Lord Damien Onaga having replaced Field Marshal Amos Forlough as the overall Commanding Officer of the SLDF units deployed on BULL RUN in 2590. Onaga's approach to conquering Desolate Plains saw him deliberately rotating troops[6] from II Corps[39] in and out of battle, giving them an opportunity to blood themselves, while limiting his campaign to purely military targets, rather than cities and civilian infrastructure. This made the conquest of Desolate Plains a slower campaign than many previous planetary assaults, but inflicted far less damage, and with much of the planetary garrison having already been stripped away by the Taurian Defense Force to fight in other systems during earlier years of the war, the battle for Desolate Plains was over by the end of October 2590.[6]

Notes[edit]

Desolate Plains doesn't appear on the post-Reunification War map of the Inner Sphere presented in Historical: Reunification War. It was noted by the map editor in the official Catalyst Game Labs forum that this was an error.[dead link]
