Edward Brooks was a notable tank commander in the Second Free Worlds Legionnaires during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History[edit]
Sergeant Major Brooks was stationed on Keystone in 3139 when Clan Wolf invaded the world as part of Operation HAMMERFALL. Under the command of the Victoria War veteran and amateur military historian Captain Brown, Brooks participated in the defense of the Breckwind Combat Vehicles factory in the Ries Mountains. Brown's certainty that his mixed group of MiningMechs and BattleMechs could hold the narrow mountain roads leading to the factory lead to his death in the first ten minutes of combat, leaving Brooks in charge of the remaining 'Mech and armor forces. After having his tankers lay a minefield down in the Wolves' line of advance, Brooks' ordered his 'Mechs to form up in the open while his tanks entrenched themselves in a flanking position. When the Wolves reacted to the minefield by attempting to charge headlong through it, Brooks' tanks downed two enemy OmniMechs and two Points of battle armor with their first salvo. The Wolves were further savaged and ultimately defeated, as they refused to engage with Brooks' tanks in favor of trying to close the distance with his BattleMech distraction force.[2][3]
The Breckwind Combat Vehicles facility ended up being the only site on Keystone that the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth managed to retain control of. While the planet still fell under Clan Wolf's control, Brooks was awarded a Defensive Operations Ribbon for his efforts.[2] He was later transferred to New Olympia and absorbed into the Second Free Worlds Legionnaires, where he was promoted to the rank of captain and given command of his own platoon of combat vehicles.[1]
