Commander Edwina "Oma" Ramsey was a MechWarrior, who served the Word of Blake and Hanseatic League, during the thirtieth and thirty-second century.[1][2]

History[edit]

Word of Blake[edit]

Ramsey fought with the Word of Blake during the Word of Blake Jihad, during which time she was modified with prosthetics as well as other bionic enhancements, which accentuated her severe countenance. She survived the Jihad, and eventually left the Inner Sphere, arriving in the Hanseatic League in 3115.[1]

Hanseatic League[edit]

Presenting herself to the Captain-Marshal of the Hanseatic Defense Force, Helga Bauer, Ramsey made no secret of her Blakist past while requesting a position in the Hanseatic Defense Force, which Bauer gave her in exchange for her advanced Blakist 'Mech. Given command of a battalion within Regional Defense Force 3, Ramsey served with distinction, though never sought further promotion.

She was however noticed by the new Captain-Marshal Rudolf Schmidt, who made her the first member of his new Command Company later known as the Schmidt's Petraries on its formation in 3136, making her commander of its Aufklärungslanze (i.e. Recon Lance) and his executive officer. Ramsey continued in this role until at least 3140, when despite her advanced age and status as the only known Jihad veteran still alive within the Hanseatic League, she was valued by Captain-Marshal Schmidt for her sage advice.[2][1]

This advice included a key stage of a famous training exercise on Antwerp in 3137, when the Petraries simulated an assault on the heavily fortified walls of Jersey City, which was defended by Regional Defense Force 4. Ramsey identified the defenders of each section of the wall were not well coordinated, allowing the Petraries to exploit the interfaces between them, and breach the fortifications for the first time in history (simulated or real). This feat was the origin of the Petraries name, as one of the defenders was heard to remark "ever was it the fate of walls to fall to petraries", an ancient name for siege engines.[3]

BattleMech[edit]

With the Word of Blake, Ramsey was known to have piloted a Preta OmniMech, which she exchanged for acceptance into the Hanseatic Defense Force in 3115[1]. Subsequently, with the HDF, Ramsey piloted a PXH-3D Phoenix Hawk BattleMech.[2]
