History[edit]
Star League Era[edit]
During the Star League era the Eighth Galedon Regulars shared a common structure with the other regiments of the Galedon Regulars, due to the threat posed by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. This common structure saw the First assigned a group of conventional regiments for support - five armor regiments, five infantry regiments, an artillery regiment, and a reinforced aerospace fighter wing. Second only to the Sword of Light regiments in priority, the various Galedon Regulars regiments had excellent levels of supplies and a high level of access to new BattleMechs and equipment.[1]
Third Succession War[edit]
In 3011 the unit was reinvigorated by fusing an independent assault battalion, another assault battalion from the Proserpina Hussars, and a third battalion with green experience.[5]
In 3012 the unit was sent to McComb to reinforce the 12th Galedon Regulars that was facing certain destruction by a powerful Davion force. Only its timely arrival, by the usage of a dangerous Pirate Point saved the 12th.[5]
The Eighth Galedon Regulars participated in the Galtor campaign during 3025. During their withdrawal, they were forced to arm their technical staff to provide enough covering fire,[6] which was named Galedon Tech Defense League.[7]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
On 12 September 3028, the Eighth dropped onto Harrow's Sun and engaged Wolf's Dragoons in what turned into a long protracted siege,[8] facing elements of Wolf's Dragoons' Epsilon Regiment.[9] They spent several months besieging the Dragoons, who had taken shelter in an AFFS fortress named Fort Belvoir. After several months of ineffective aerospace fighter and BattleMech strikes, the Eighth deployed combat engineers who tunneled into the fort. The infantry attached to the Galedon Regulars seized multiple high points in the fortress itself and killed the Federated Suns militia assisting the Dragoons. As the Dragoons turned to face this threat, the Galedon Regulars' BattleMechs charged through the minefields and attacked. The Dragoons and Regulars fought for several days, but eventually, the Dragoons were forced to withdraw to Crossing.[10][11]
The Eighth Galedon Regulars pursued the Dragoons to Crossing. As the Dragoons established a fortification at Tartarus Caldera, the Eighth arrived and set up camp along the caldera's southern edge. This allowed them to use a wide four-lane road to reach the summit. They advanced at the same time other Galedon Regulars regiments assaulted the Caldera. Though they were able to use the road, this also exposed them to heavy fire from the Dragoons.[12] They faced the Black Widow Company and fought Colonel Jaime Wolf himself.[13] Eventually the Dragoons prevailed, and the Eighth started a withdrawal from the caldera. They faced Dragoon infantry armed with Inferno missiles. The infantry ignited several 'Mechs, but none were lost.[14][15]
War of 3039[edit]
The Eighth, along with the remaining bulk of the Sixth Benjamin Regulars, was assigned to recapture the BattleMech manufacturing planet of Marduk for the Combine under the command of the Sixth's Commanding Officer Sho-sho Goros. Undermanned and outnumbered, hampered by the old-school "victory or death" suicide charges and bitter arguments between unit commanders, the Combine taskforce suffered heavy losses but held on in desperation in the remains of a Succession Wars era fort. Suns forces had all but completed the invasion of the planet[4] when the DCMS taskforce was ultimately saved by the recall of all AFFS combat units from the Draconis Combine, returning Marduk to Combine hands.[16] Despite this pyrrhic victory, or indeed in honor of, the Eighth called themselves the "Liberators of Marduk."[4]
Clan Invasion[edit]
In 3050 the unit was stationed on Deshler.[17]
The Eighth Galedon Regulars regiment was destroyed during the Clan Invasion, though it is unclear who their foe was. The surviving units of the Eighth were combined with the Thirty-fourth Galedon Regulars to form the Forty-second Galedon Regulars sometime between 3054[2][18] and 3059.[3]

Tactics[edit]
Star League Era[edit]
Due to the high number of Sun Zhang Military Academy and Galedon Military Academy recruits within the Galedon Regulars, the Regulars often displayed fanatical loyalty and courage. However, the elitism displayed by these same recruits led to poor coordination between the Regulars and the attached convention forces, who were often used as cannon fodder.[1]
Succession Wars Era[edit]
In 3025 the unit has no specialty.[22] During the Third Succession War, their 'Mech forces were two-thirds heavy and assault units and they only used the heaviest light and medium 'Mechs.[23]
Clan Invasion[edit]
All 'Mechs and combat vehicles are heavily-armed medium, or fast heavies and assault machines to maintain the unit's fast, hard-hitting style of combat.[4]

Colors and Unit Insignia[edit]
The Galedon Regulars favor light-colored schemes for their 'Mechs. White, tan, and light gray dominate. For parade use, they maintain a gray base with white striping,[22] a gray with light blue stripes, or tan with white stripes. The Galedon brigade insignia is a gray/white katana over a field with one blue and one black triangle. The insignia is placed on the upper right leg of the unit's BattleMechs or fuselage of aerospace fighters.[29]
