Description[edit]
The Firestorm was created by a combined group of Spina Khanate and Wolf Empire warriors and technicians. Based on a new OmniMech derived from the Shadow Cat, this long term project wasn't ready for production; however, a BattleMech could be developed from a planned configuration, thus laying the groundwork for the Firestorm. With this in mind, the Clan Wolf warriors favored a weapons suite focused on incendiary operations. This allowed the Wolf touman to rapidly expand its second line and garrison forces without incurring the cost of expensive OmniMechs.[2]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The Firestorm focuses on anti-infantry and anti-vehicle combat. Similar to the Shadow Cat, the Firestorm uses a single main weapon supported by several smaller ones. The right arm carries an Inner Sphere-produced plasma rifle fed by two tons of ammunition, while a plasma cannon mounted in the right torso and fed by one ton of ammunition provides additional power. These two weapons quickly overwhelm conventional armor forces, overheat BattleMechs, and, quite literally, melt through soft targets. Supporting these weapons are a flamer, micro pulse laser, and ER medium laser mounted in the left arm. The first two weapons are effective in the anti-infantry role while the extended range laser, assisted by a second laser under the cockpit, can penetrate heavier armor.[2]
Built on an endo-steel skeleton, the Firestorm uses a 250-rated extralight engine to reach a speed of 86 km/h. A MASC system mounted in the left torso allows it to sprint at speeds of 108 km/h. Seven improved jump jets let the 'Mech cover 210 meters in a jump. Protection is provided by nine tons of ferro-fibrous armor.[2]
