History[edit]
Early History[edit]
The Amphigean Security Group mustered as a part of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery during the First Succession War[2] in 2811 as corporate security for Amphigean Agriculture Incorporated.[3] Used as cannon fodder by Coordinator Jinjiro Kurita during his Chain Gang Missions of the Second Succession War, the surviving ASG returned to corporate life as well-regarded but ultimately forgotten forces to protect the far-flung holdings of their parent company.[1]
Third Succession War[edit]
By 2952, the Amphigean Security Group had grown to six battalions and the DCMS approached AGI with long-term contracts for two regiments as the Amphigean Light Assault Group. The First Amphigean Light Assault Group and Second Group would be supplied by the DCMS, though piloted by AGI MechWarriors, while the Third and Fourth remained battalion-sized and under full AGI control. Both ALAG mercenary contracts were renewed, eventually in perpetuity by the DCMS throughout the next century.[1]
The unit was stationed on the world of Reisling's Planet in 3025.
The First participated in the Galtor campaign in 3025, against Davion forces. They fought from August 29th to September 10th.[4] There, they destroyed the Raman Draconis March Militia and inflicted severe casualties on the Bremond Draconis March Militia.[5] The unit suffered 31% casualties during the operation.[3]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
During the early months of the Fourth Succession War, Coordinator Takashi Kurita was focused on his conflict with the Wolf's Dragoons mercenary brigade, but following pleas for help from Chancellor Maximilian Liao, the DCMS planned and launched additional offensives against perceived weak spots on the Federated Suns border. The Galtor Thumb region was one such weak spot and Galtor III was invaded by the First Amphigean Light Assault Group. The planetary militia on Galtor III consisted of aging 'Mechs piloted by old pilots and a few regiments of conventional forces, which were swiftly defeated by the LAG. Despite the militia being easily beaten, an extensive guerrilla resistance campaign began on Galtor III that would continue to dog the DCMS forces on the planet, even though the Combine officially considered the planet to have been annexed in early January 3029.[6]
Given the Amphigean Light Assault Group's quasi-House unit status, they were exempt from Coordinator Takashi Kurita's Death to Mercenaries order.[1]
War of 3039[edit]
This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. |
Though the 'unofficial' War had officially ended in January 3040, bureaucracy and military confusion surrounding the end of hostilities continued. In late October 3040, an expeditionary force from the Third Benjamin returned to Galtor III from Irurzun to find the mercenary Clifton's Rangers following their last orders of assisting the people and dismantling the administrative structures built by the Combine since the capture of the planet in the Fourth Succession War. Both sides were stalemated with heavy losses until the Regulars were forced to retreat. Negotiations regarding the return of PoWs and the resistance to widening the conflict prompted the AFFS High Command to order the Rangers off-world. Instead, the Rangers broke their contract with the Federated Suns to sign directly with the planetary government. In December, the Third Benajmain returned, along with the First and Second Amphigean Light Assault Groups to end the resistance. After fifteen months, Clifton's Rangers and the Galtor Milita were destroyed, tens of thousands of civilians were dead, and anti-Kurita propaganda was rampant. Marital law was required to keep the planet under control, an order that did not end for fifteen years.[7]
Free Mutineers[edit]
The First was sent to quell a rebellion on the planet of Proserpina. They were opposed by mercenaries covertly sent by the Federated Commonwealth in July 3045. The mercenaries led the Free Proserpina Mutineers to victory, killing Sho-sa Varus on September 21, and driving the Combine to begin evacuation on October 22. The final remaining Combine forces were cut off from escape off-planet on November 6 and surrendered on the 10th. The provisional government announced that 60 captured Combine soldiers would be tried for war crimes, including multiple massacres of civilians.
However, it is likely that Proserpina was retaken by the Combine not long after the mercenaries' departure.[8]
Clan Invasion[edit]
After being assigned to Kilmarnock in the final wave of the Clan Invasion, the First learned that the Clans had destroyed their sister regiments. They wanted to avenge their fallen comrades but were restricted to garrison duty by the Truce of Tukayyid. To appease their honor, the First was assigned to raid several worlds in the Clan occupation zone. They raided Cyrenaica, Irece, and Avon. These raids were intended to disrupt any Clan invasion plans by seizing or destroying Clan supply depots. These raids were frequently successful and the First inflicted heavy losses on the garrison units on those worlds as well.[9]
Operation BULLDOG[edit]
Volunteers from the unit formed The Swarm Provisional Company as part of Operation BIRD DOG.[10] The 1st Amphigean also raided the world of Byesville, losing only a lance to enemy forces.[11]
Dominion War[edit]
The First Amphigean took the world of Dyev in the Lyons Thumb.[11]
Federated Suns Incursion[edit]
In 3066, the First Amphigean defeated the 1st Ceti Hussars on Kesai IV, bringing the planet into the Draconis Combine.[11]
Jihad[edit]
Faced off against the Word of Blake on Atria in the early 3070s. They rotated to Dromini VI in 3073 and faced the Blakists a month later. The First Amphigean destroyed half the Blakist DropShips with artillery fire and continued to sting the invaders for months. Shortly before Operation SCOUR started, the High Command reinforced the First with infantry and armor assets.[12]
Republic Era[edit]
The First continued to hold the Combine-Blakist Protectorate border throughout Operation SCOUR and after the Jihad ended. At the end of the Jihad, the unit had been reduced to two battalions, but they realized that the Quartermaster wouldn't send them replacements. The First sent technical and recovery teams to battlefields in nearby systems and recovered nearly a company of 'Mechs. They spent the next few years acquiring new warriors and equipment and by 3085, they had rebuilt to regimental strength.[13]
In 3085, they were garrisoning Bjarred and Salford, acting as a quick-response force for the Pesht Military District.[14]
Dark Age[edit]
The First Amphigean Light Assault Group joined the 2nd Amphigean Light Assault Group in battling the Nova Cats' Gamma Galaxy on Avon during the Nova Cat Rebellion. Though the two Light Assault Groups were eventually able to destroy the Nova Cats, they sustained heavy losses during the fighting.[15]
As of 3145, the First is posted to New Samarkand, to bolster the defense of the planet with the short-handed Twelfth New Samarkand Regulars.[16]

Tactics[edit]
The First ALAG uses primary light and medium 'Mechs, focusing on outmaneuvering their opponents. They often customize their machines with larger engines, at the cost of firepower, utilizing the PNT-9ALAG Panther.[1]
The First Amphigean LAG uses their high speed to engage an enemy force and then withdraws, encouraging their opponent to follow them. Enemies who do follow the retreating Amphigeans are typically ambushed by other Amphigean forces stationed nearby. After 3055, the First Amphigean used the same tactics, but Tai-sas Trueffeau and Two-Feathers would split the unit into two units. Against enemies who assumed they were facing the entire unit, this tactic of splitting up allowed the Amphigeans to hit the enemy in the flank or rear.[9]
Composition History[edit]
ALAG units maintain an aerospace fighter wing only. District Warlords and planetary administrators often assign the Amphigean Light Assault Group in their area of operations a vehicle or infantry element as needed.[1]
