The one of the Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy's cadre units, cadets assigned to the First Sun Zhang Academy Cadre are put to the ultimate test by seeing real combat.
History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
The First Cadre was on Luthien in 2787 when the Tamar Tigers arrived to raid the world. The First was stationed in Imperial City, far away from the Aichi continent where the Tigers landed and raided.[3]
Third Succession War[edit]
As of 3025, the First was assigned to Weingarten. [4]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
Weingarten was one of the worlds attacked in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War. The attack on Weingarten was intended to capitalize on the historic pattern of assigning new recruits to Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery units at specific times of the year, a bad habit that the DCMS had fallen into over the years. When the Fifteenth Lyran Regulars landed on Weingarten they found that the First Sun Zhang Training Cadre had one battalion of green troops unfit for battle, while the other two battalions were located at bases located on different parts of the planet.[5]
The Fifteenth Lyran Regulars went on to conquer Weingarten, with the heaviest fighting of the campaign occurring when a DCMS armor regiment attempted to prevent a battalion of the Fifteenth from entering the city of Buson Bay until the last of the First Sun Zhang had been able to evacuate.[5]
Ronin War[edit]
During the Ronin War the First Sun Zhang was stationed on Kempten in 3034. They attempted to retake the world for the Combine, but Vinson's Vigilantes, a local mercenary unit, prevented this. The Vigilantes held the Cadre in place while the 2nd Kavalleri landed in the Cadre's rear areas. The Kavalleri killed the command staff and the cadets withdrew into a mountain range.[2][6] The ronin Seventeenth Rasalhague Regulars arrived and landed in the Kavalleri's rear area, allowing the surviving Cadre members to break out of the mountain range. The Cadre had been reduced to a quarter of its nominal strength and was absorbed into the Seventeenth to make up losses in that unit.[7][2]
3039[edit]
With the Sixth Alshain Regulars and a number of Internal Security Force agents, the First Sun Zhang retook the planet Alnasi II from the First Argyle Lancers and Twenty-sixth Lyran Guards.[2][8] After a overnight forced march on 29 July, the First Sun Zhang surprised a Twenty-sixth Lyran armor battalion on the outskirts of Gantarius.[9]
Clan Invasion[edit]
The First Cadre was rebuilt after these events and stationed on Tinaca.[10] A battalion's worth of cadets were captured by the 115th Striker Cluster of Clan Ghost Bear and made Ghost Bear bondsmen when they attacked the world. The Cadre was under orders to surrender but disregarded them. A full-out assault including death from above attacks forced the Ghost Bears to respond in kind, though Star Captain Edore DelVillar had her warriors cut the legs out from under the Kuritans and her Elementals pry the cadets from their cockpits.[1][11]

Color Schemes and Insignia[edit]
Sun Zhang BattleMechs and fighters are painted white with blue stripes. The exact pattern differs among the Cadres. The Sun Zhang Cadres do not paint their machines in camouflage. Each 'Mech paints the House Kurita dragon on its upper left torso and the Cadre's insignia of a setting sun at various locations.[22]
