For the Glory of the Dragon is a short story by Philip A. Lee that was published as introductory fiction for Handbook: House Kurita.

Plot Summary[edit]

The story is a multi-perspective narrative set in the Draconis Combine on 22 October 3067, describing simultaneous events unfolding throughout the realm. It interweaves the experiences of a young officer on the battlefield, a covert operative working under deep cover, and the Coordinator himself, revealing the pressures facing House Kurita on political, military, and personal fronts.

On Luzerne, Chu-i Alexander Takanashi, a young infantry officer of the Eighth Dieron Regulars, receives word of his son's birth. As a Clan Ghost Bear force launches a raid, Alexander leads his company in a bold counterattack. Inspired by a moment of personal clarity and duty, he names his son Katsu-Victory—as he charges into battle.

On Luthien, Shin Yodama, an undercover agent posing as the yakuza member "Taro Toguchi", continues a covert mission to infiltrate the Kokuryu-kai, a radical conservative society. When his identity is threatened, he is forced to kill both an assailant and a police officer to protect his cover, underscoring the brutal costs of his mission.

Meanwhile at Unity Palace, Coordinator Theodore Kurita prepares to leave Luthien for a political summit on Tharkad. Before his departure, he meets with the Director of the Internal Security Force and the High Command, quietly ordering a purge of suspected Kokuryu-kai sympathizers. As he reflects on the future of his realm, he accepts that sacrifice and vigilance are necessary to guarantee the Combine's survival; all for the glory of the Dragon.
