Planetary History[edit]
Reunification War[edit]
Gallis became a target for the SLDF invasion of the Magistracy of Canopus during the third year of the military campaign. The Star League Defense Force task force commanded by Captain-General Marion Marik launched their attack on Gallis in January 2580 and while the planetary invasion force was smaller than those used during 2578 and 2579, it still consisted of a complete SLDF brigade—the Fifty-ninth—supported by the Second Oriente Hussars and the Juggernaut regiment of the Stewart Dragoons.[8][48]
Whilst the defending Magistracy Armed Forces units on Gallis managed to sting the invading forces, contesting the invasion, they retreated before the SLDF could mount an effective pursuit, preserving their strength as part of a general refit and rearmament campaign both sides were conducting.[8] Although the SLDF would occupy Gallis for the remainder of the war, the system would remain a part of the Magistracy of Canopus after the war.[9]
Star League[edit]
During the final years of the Star League, Gallis was the host to a SLDF garrison in the form of the 255th Royal BattleMech Division. The Division's reputation for scorched-earth tactics and its commander's statements about burning down cities to subjugate the territorial states led to massive protests across the Magistracy. The members of the 255th returned the disdain they received thus were barracked in a remote area of the planet.[49]
The Dark Age[edit]
During the Dark Age Gallis became the garrison posting of the prestigious Second Canopian Light Horse, who continued to be based on the planet until at least 3145. The Second's posting wasn't an idle one, however; Gallis was used by the Second as a springboard for raids into the former Free Worlds League region of space. When the Duchy of Andurien allied itself with the Capellan Confederation and the Magistracy, the Second continued their raiding habits, but redirected their raids towards those independent former League worlds near the Duchy's border. Ostensibly, the Second's raids were launched for the purpose of gathering intelligence, but Magestrix Ilsa Centrella had another goal in mind in the mid-thirty-second century; she hoped that the raids could force three of the independent worlds, Eleusis, Obrenovac and Scheuerheck into aligning themselves with the Duchy.[50]

Notes[edit]
- Per Field Manual: SLDF, the 255th Royal BattleMech Division is listed as being stationed on Gallis and Persephone.[49] As there is no listed Persephone system on any maps, the author may be been referring to a continent called Persephone on Gallis, or possibly to an orbiting moon or another planet in the Gallis system.
