History[edit]
Former Identity: The Wolfhounds[edit]
Prior to their existence as truly independent mercenaries, the future Ghost Dogs were The Wolfhounds, the Second Company of the Kell Hounds' Second Battalion. The Kell Hounds adopted the manner through their history of bestowing individual battalions and even companies with their own unique nicknames and tactical specialties, The Wolfhounds functioned as an independent rapid response force that operated out of Galatea. While the Kell Hounds had largely outgrown the world, with a hiring hall to rival it on their landhold of Arc-Royal, they never forgot Patrick and Morgan Kell's formation of the unit on the Mercenary's Star and strove to maintain ties to the world and the contract and recruiting opportunities there.[1]
On 5 September 3146, the same day that Arc-Royal fell to Khan Malvina Hazen and rest of the Kell Hounds were shattered, the unaware Wolfounds successfully completed a high paying contract from the Lyran Commonwealth to defend Narcisse, the domed capital city of Carsphairn, by destroying a Star of Clan Jade Falcon raiders led by Star Commander Violet Ustone. Returning back to Galetea on 28 September eagerly expecting another contract, Wolfhounds commander Major Hank Mallory instead received a Priority One his eyes only order from Callandre Kell.[1]
Gathering the entire Wolfhounds staff, while admitting he lacked information Mallory revealed the Kell Hounds were immediately disbanding in the face of Jade Falcon's vendetta against them, to the point that they had to immediately eliminate any visible tie to their unit if they hoped to survive. Though confronted by resistance and confusion from many of the unit's members, the unit was promptly renamed the Ghost Dogs inspired by Mallory's choice to rechristen their DropShip as the infamous ghost ship the Flying Dutchman.[1]

Notes[edit]
- While in service as the Wolfhounds the unit used the classic red and black of their parent unit, after their hurried conversion from the Wolfhounds into the Ghost Dogs, lack of time, resources and options led them to select a light grey and salmon pink paint scheme that resembles ghostly variation of the Kell Hounds livery.[1] The unit's insignia is an upturned triangle reminiscent of the Kell House insignia with a more German Shepard themed canine with the same light gray and pink coloring.[3]
