The Gogh-Bukowski University of New Avalon was a university established on the Federated Suns planet of New Avalon.
Background[edit]
Located on the planet New Avalon, the Gogh-Bukowski University of New Avalon was one of the most prominent schools of arts in the Inner Sphere.[1] The university was named after two famous artists from pre-spaceflight Terra, painter Vincent van Gogh and writer Charles Bukowski, who remained popular in the thirty-first century.[2]
The university was divided into the School of the Written Arts, the School of Visual Arts, and the School of Musical Arts.[1] Because of the school's liberal, anti-government political tendencies, the university's students had a history of finding themselves at odds with the students of the New Avalon Institute of Science.[1] In 3025, the popular cause was the Federated Suns' alliance with the Lyran Commonwealth, which different groups of students supporting and opposing. While protests at the university had traditionally been peaceful, this conflict caused an upswing of violence on campus, which was a concern to the Dean Countess Uvonda Trimal.[2]
It was only during the reign of Katherine Steiner-Davion that the students of both schools found themselves on the same side in opposing her, with Gogh-Bukowski's students taking the lead in organizing various acts of civil disobedience.[1]
During the Battle of New Avalon in 3146, Gogh-Bukowski University's campus was destroyed, in the course of the Draconis Combine's invasion.[3]
