Gregg Car was the founder of the Gregg's Long Striders mercenary unit.

History[edit]

Wolf's Dragoons Years[edit]

Gregg Car enlisted with Wolf's Dragoons in 3020 and made captain, which indicates past experience as a MechWarrior and also Leadership skills.[2] He had issues adapting to the Dragoons' chain of command, resulting in a demotion to lieutenant in 3022 which ended with him leaving the unit.[2]

Formation of his own unit[edit]

Gregg Car decided then that he wanted to be his own boss and formed his own mercenary unit, Gregg's Long Striders. The unit of regiment size was made of knockabouts or disgruntled MechWarriors from Tamar hiring halls, and Car signed a contract with the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces[2] to defend the world of Launam.[3]

Car's method of maintaining loyalty through higher-than-average salaries quickly put the mercenaries in debt. Rather than change their ways, the Long Striders instead abandoned their debt and jumped ship for the Capellan Confederation.[1]

Death and Legacy[edit]

Gregg Car kept his unit in check through sheer force of will until his untimely death in a 3055 barroom brawl by three men. Car had often prided himself on having been part of one of the greatest groups of warriors in history. Unfortunately, he touted this in the presence of warriors from McCarron's Armored Cavalry, whose long-running feud with the Dragoons was legendary. Of the three members of the Big Mac who were indicted, only one was convicted of Gregg Car’s death in the brawl.[1]

Gregg had at least one child: Davis Car, who, like him, ended up commanding Gregg's Long Striders.[1]
