The Grossbach system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as at 3145 was an independent system in the Periphery in the border region between the Calderon Protectorate, Federated Suns and Taurian Concordat.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The Grossbach system is located near the Logan's Land and Perdition systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Grossbach system was either colonized by the Taurian Concordat at some point during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War, or was an already-inhabited world that became significant enough during this era to merit being recorded on maps.[5][3][4]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

Like most Periphery planets with a Star League Defense Force garrison, the SLDF troops were the target of protests and minor physical attacks to personnel. Most of them left no one seriously injured or caused negligible damage. However, in 2764, truck-borne IEDs blasted a whole in the perimeter fence of the local garrison after a local rabble-rouser was taken into custody. Taurian rioters then entered through the gap. They opened fire on SLDF personnel and lobbed satchel charges at nearby combat vehicles and BattleMechs. More than a company of war machines and several platoons of infantry were lost in the attack before it was put down. The 33rd Infantry Division placed the area under martial law to prevent any additional attacks.[38]

The Jihad[edit]

Grossbach was the target of a destructive raid by the mercenary unit Hansen's Roughriders on the 7th of September 3075; the Roughriders attacked numerous Taurian Concordat worlds as part of a Federated Suns counter-offensive in response to the recent Taurian invasion of the Federated Suns.[39][40]

The Dark Age[edit]

In the aftermath of the Jihad Grossbach was one of the Taurian worlds suffering badly from a lack of funding to assist in rebuilding after the damage inflicted by the Roughriders. As with Macleod's Land, Sterope and Taurus itself, rebuilding was going woefully slowly in the decade after the Jihad ended, as a consequence of the Taurian government diverting so much effort and resources to the war effort.[41] During Operation MATADOR the First MacLeod's Regiment retreated to Grossbach from Perdition, having held out against the First Davion Guards until the arrival of the Twenty-second Avalon Hussars LCT made their position indefensible.[42]

The Concordat Commandos were relocated to Grossbach after MATADOR, having requested a border posting so that they could launch attacks into the Federated Suns. In the first half of the 3080s the Commandos launched numerous raids against Logan's Land, Norman's World and Perdition from the Grossbach, with their efforts to insert cover operatives onto the three worlds to undermine the Federated Suns governments in place proving a dismal failure because of the experience and training the local garrisons had in ferreting out insurgents.[43]
