Grumman Amalgamated was the only heavy tank manufacturer in the Free Worlds League.[1]
Overview[edit]
Descended from an ancient defense contractor based on Terra, Grumman Amalgamated was once a proud and important part of interstellar commerce. By 3067, their output was focused on the Ontos and a few other combat vehicles. Many of the components they produced were also used in other companies' products; in particular, the Light Gauss Rifle they produced under license from Imperator Automatic Weaponry was popular with many units.[1]
In 3139, forces from the Free Worlds raided Shiro III, which was a member of the independent Duchy of Andurien. The target of the raid was the Grumman Amalgamated plant, and the defending Andurien forces quickly pressed Lamprey Transport Helicopters into service, first by using their SRM launchers to ignite fires to channel and slow the League forces, and then to deploy battle armor squads in the rear area of the League echelons. With the infantry deployed, the Lampreys then engaged the League BattleMech forces, forcing one 'Mech to retreat and destroying a second despite taking several direct hits from heavy weapons.[2]
Leadership[edit]
An apocryphal source (Bruderkampf) names one Alfredo Garcia of Shiro III as the CEO of Grumman Amalgamated and also co-owner. The time period is not specified, but is implied to be in the early 31st century, after Shiro III has become a Free Worlds Leage holding (after 3012) but prior to the Andurien Secession in 3030 and implicitly also prior to the Concord of Kapteyn that came into being between 3022 and 3024.[3]
