Heaven's Door is a short story by Nick Marsala that was published as introductory fiction for Jihad Turning Points: Sian.
Plot Summary[edit]
On 7 January 3074, Word of Blake forces make a second attempt to seize Sian. The preparation involved inserting troops covertly onto Sian over the course of several years. When the Blakists attack, they face a completely surprised opponent.
Among the Capellan forces ambushed by the Blakist are the Red Lancers, which take heavy losses. Only Sang-shao Jerome Ling and his XO remain operational, when Ling realizes that they are attacked by Capellan designs and orders his XO to withdraw and inform command about the finding, while he stays behind to buy his XO time until he is finally killed.
