This work provided a history of House Varnay, an influential noble family, during the early history of the Federated Suns. Its coverage included David Varnay, and his actions real and supposed, in connection with the death of First Prince William Davion in 2512. In relation to these events, the book canvased opinions such as found in anonymous pamphlet The Poisoned Prince which suggested the First Prince had been poisoned by a figure such as David Varnay, but ultimately concluded he had died of natural causes arising from Spotted Fever Plague.[1]
