Description[edit]
The Horned Owl, or Peregrine as the Inner Sphere designated it, is a light, fast second-line BattleMech capable of highly accurate fire. It was designed by Clan Goliath Scorpion as a rugged submersible construction ’Mech and was later rebuilt for combat[1]. A harassing platform, the Horned Owl is also a capable dueling 'Mech. Five tons of ferro-fibrous armor provide adequate protection for the light 'Mech.
Due to its streamlined non-threatening appearance the Horned Owl is well suited for guard duties in civilian areas. This feature is also the reason why this mech is sometimes mistaken for lightweight security mech despite being fully capable military tool.[6]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
Armed with a single Kolibri Delta Series large pulse laser in the center torso and a Kolibri Omega Series medium pulse laser in each arm, the Horned Owl's devastatingly accurate fire can quickly destroy other light 'Mechs.
Variants[edit]
- Horned Owl 3
- Unlike the 2, this variant returns to a design similar to the original. In place of the large pulse laser there is an ER PPC tied to a targeting computer, allowing this variant to snipe efficiently. In place of the medium pulse lasers are two trios of light machine guns, allowing the design to deal with infantry should it need to. BV (1.0) = ?, BV (2.0)=1,545[9][10]
- Horned Owl 4
- Almost a complete redesign, the Horned Owl was redone by Clan Goliath Scorpion after they took over the Abysmal continent on Huntress. The 'Mech is no longer so neatly rounded, but it makes up for that with four ATM-3s and an ER medium laser. Three tons of ammunition allow the pilot access to all of the ATM's modes of fire, and it runs cool. BV (1.0) = 1,241, BV (2.0)=1,198[11]
- Horned Owl 5
- Ironically, the Scorpion's first attempt at redesigning the Horned Owl was not well received by their Warrior caste, but an all-energy version is ideal for their Seekers. Armed with an ER large laser in each arm and a center-line heavy medium laser, this model can essentially operate indefinitely, though its pilot must be wary of heat buildup, despite the added double heat sink. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,523[12]
- Horned Owl 6
- This model of the Horned Owl carries a large pulse laser and two medium pulse lasers. The jump jets have been removed and replaced by a targeting computer. BV (2.0) = 1,413[13]
- Horned Owl 7
- Also known as the Shimafukuro, this variant reduces the top speed to 86 km/h and uses a partial wing to jump 210 meters at a time. A light TAG system is mounted in the head, and each arm carries a medium pulse laser, but the main firepower comes from an ER large laser. All the weapons are tied into a targeting computer. BV (2.0) = 1,725[14]

Notes[edit]
- In German products, the unit's proper Clan name was translated to Uhu. The unit's proper Inner Sphere name was altered to Frostfalke, which literally means Frost Falcon. This was supposedly done to prevent a mix-up with the Peregrine VTOL.
- Author Ashley Watkins stated in a blog entry that she designed stats and wrote background for Peregrine as originally published in TRO:3055.
