History & Tactics[edit]
Ian Smythe was a MechWarrior on Solaris. In 3132 he was one of the contenders in the Grand Tournament and ranked seventy-first.
Ian Smythe had won both his first and second round fights, and for his third match on day three, he had been paired against "Vanquishing" Varick Geralyn in the Factory.
"Vanquishing" Varick Geralyn, suffered a terrible loss when his custom Legionnaire, Close Cutter, took a hit in the magazine from his enemy's stock Centurion. Gossip said that the victory would for sure to rocket Smythe up through the rankings, if he could hold onto his luck for the next four nights.[1]
He won his match in the third round, and then the one in the fourth round to be finally paired to fight his fifth match against Omar "Demolition" Durand in the Factory Arena. The arena was the scene for an equally fierce duel. Durand, in his element among the twisted and cluttered confines of the Factory, matched his Marauder shot for shot against Smythe's 'Mech in what can only be described as a brutal slugfest often fought at point-blank range. Showing his characteristic sense of chivalry, Durand often hesitated when Smythe's machine stumbled over wreckage on the arena floor, giving his opponent time to recover and defend himself, though it ultimately only prolonged the inevitable. In a spectacular final volley, Symthe was felled with a critical engine hit that sent the lighter machine into an instant shutdown.[2]
BattleMechs[edit]
For the 3132 Grand Championship he was fighting in a stock Centurion named "Mack".[1] In his fight the same year and Championship against Omar "Demolition" Durand he was piloting a Thunderbolt.[2]
