The Interstellar Strategic Combined Assault Force or INTERSTRATCAF was the chosen unit formation of the Terran Alliance to project force amongst the many colony worlds under their control. While this ability to project such force was largely untested, each Force was well equipped with both naval and ground forces. Each one contained several squadrons of KF Drive equipped strike cruisers and assault carriers as well as attack transports to deliver units of the Colonial Marines to the planet's surface to deal with any threat to the Alliance's interests.[1] The marine land forces were augmented with units seconded or detached from the mainstream AGM forces.[citation needed]
When other worlds such as Sevren and Ryde joined with the planet Freedom to declare their independence from the Terran Alliance and ignite the Outer Reaches Rebellion, it was the Interstellar Strategic Combined Assault Forces that were the first into action.[1]
Despite their firepower and capability, the formations would largely be ineffective against the colonists and their intimate knowledge of the terrain. Also, the sheer cost and complications of conducting interstellar operations over vast distances would doom the Alliance's campaign.[1]
It is unknown as this time how many Forces were in service.
