The Interstellar Yahn Sun League (IYSL) was the main Yahn Sun league.[1][2]
Overview[edit]
The IYSL grew out of the formalization of Yahn Sun, a space-based sport, in the years of the Tikonov Grand Union. Crew of the Tikonov Grand Union JumpShip Yahn Sun formalized the rules of a traditional spacer game and created a tournament structure. The initial approach to tournaments — impromptu ones whenever ships with players crossed paths — was replaced with a more formal system once the game had spread enough.[2]
The IYSL used an algorithm to create a number of equally sized Divisions out of all participating ships, based on who they would encounter on their routes. Initially, there were three Divisions; the number varied over time before stabilizing at ten around the 2930s.[2]
Each Division had a three-year regular season of internal competition and a Divisional Championship tournament. Champions from each Division entered the Durban Cup Finals (first hosted in 2348)[3] and the final Durban Cup Champion would have their name etched into the Cup itself. The winner would also be given a custom playing cap, and their ship would earn the right to transport the Cup to the next Durban Cup tournament.[2] The cup itself had to be replaced at least once; it was destroyed by Clan forces in 3051.[1]
The 3136 197th Quadrennial Durban Cup Finals were hosted on the IYSL DropShip Cape of Good Hope, near Canopus IV.[1] It was the first to ever have a Clan player, Nigel Wolf, reach the championship match, and the first in over 200 years to have a player, Marcus Loretti, foul out.[4]
