Ivan Karyo was a MechWarrior until the Andurien Secession, and later the commander of an armor platoon on Ares.[1]

Subcommander Karyo was a MechWarrior until the Andurien invasion of the Capellan Confederation during the Andurien Secession, when he was injured to the extent he could no longer pilot a BattleMech. Relegated to conventional vehicles, he chose the heaviest one possible, in an attempt to avoid being injured again.
Karyo and his veteran tank crew were zealous in their training, being almost constantly in their tank. When ordered to leave the practice field during a holiday, Karyo challenged the MechWarrior duty officer to a practice dual, destroying their Cataphract within two minutes of combat.[1]
Vehicle[edit]
Karyo was known to have commanded a Behemoth heavy tank, nicknamed Redemption.[1]
