The Jade Swords were a mercenary company formed by disaffected members of Clan Jade Falcon.

History[edit]

Following the Rending, Malvina Hazen summoned remaining loyalists of Khan Jana Pryde to Sudeten's capital city of Hamarr only to deorbit the Emerald Talon onto the city. One group of dissidents however was outside the city at the time of the impact, and under the direction of Star Colonel Reynard Buhallin commandeered the DropShip Ichabod Thastus in order to effect their escape. Star Colonel Buhallin led the survivors in a search for the Jade Falcon enclaves in the former Republic of the Sphere in an attempt to form a Clan-in-Exile, but was defeated by Senate Alliance or Great House troops each time. After Buhallin's death Star Captain Vormand assumed command of the dwindling unit and attempted to join the Clan Protectorate, but was rejected. Vormand elected to transform the unit into a mercenary outfit he dubbed the Jade Swords to survive, deeming the shame of mercenary work preferable to solahma status or swearing permanent loyalty to a Successor State.[1]

In 3149 the Jade Swords were struggling to make ends meet. This was partially due to Vormand's inexperience when it came to bargaining and partly because their employer, the planetary government of Sackville, was playing several mercenary units against each other in order to drive prices down. After discussion options with the command staff of Demeter's Avengers and Manitou's Boys Vormand elected to merge the Swords into a larger force called the Strange Bedfellows in hopes of a more prosperous future for his Warriors.[1]
