James Burrill Riel was a mercenary commander during the mid to late 31st century.[1][2][3][4]

Colonel James Burrill Riel served as the commanding officer of the Always Faithful mercenary unit from at least 3050 to 3067. While still a capable commander, running the unit and worrying about the unit's finances had worn down Riel and left him in bad health. He only delayed his retirement as he believed that his subordinates, Major Deng Xiao and Lieutenant Colonel Brian Renollds, would fight for control of the unit and destroy it in the process.[4]
