Janos Vandermeer was the captain of the Invader-class JumpShip Cucamulus and an expert on Pirate Points.[1]

Janos Vandermeer had a large portion of his bones and joints replaced with steel or plastic constructs due to the effects of decalcification in low gravity.[1]
Vandermeer had extensive knowledge of pirate and smuggler activities and Pirate Points, with a computer memory core of pirate databases and programs. Vandermeer first met Kell Hounds when he was on a cargo mission for his uncle, taking whiskey from the Connor Distillery on Arc-Royal to Rasalhague. Soon afterward the Kells formed their mercenary unit, and Vandermeer joined as their pilot.[1] When the Kells captured the Cucamulus, they transferred ownership to him. Janos Vandermeer was the pilot of the Cucamulus during the Silver Eagle Incident in 3027.[2] Janos Vandermeer and the Cucamulus were on The Rock when elements of the Kell Hounds' Second Regiment encountered Clan Wolf for the first time. Vandermeer and his JumpShip were also at the planning for the Battle of Twycross suggests they escaped capture by Clan Wolf.[3][4]
