Johnny "Jack" Rutger was a pirate MechWarrior. At an unknown time during the greater Dark Age Era, he was abandoned on Botany Bay by his raiding party, left behind with three other pirates: Serena Yang, Manfred Gorsky, and Monique Histler. For over a year, they shared Serena's damaged Verfolger and raided the towns of Black Canyon County, operating from a cave in the canyon itself. Eventually, the county governor hired wandering mercenaries to hunt down the pirates; whether they succeeded is unknown.[1]
Jack, due to his belligerence, was particularly uncomfortable with Serena's leadership.[2]

After his abandonment, Jack was among the pilots sharing Serena Yang's Verfolger.[2]
