Julian Grant was a member of the Jalastar Defense Force during the thirty-first century.

In February 3076, Julian Grant was a test pilot serving at the Jalastar Aerospace factories on Panpour when they were attacked by the Taurian Defense Force. The attack was launched by the Vendetta Task Force, a group of Taurian Concordat units accompanying the Quixote-class frigate TCS Vendetta, which was conducting a campaign of attacks against Federated Suns systems close to the border of the Taurian Concordat.[1]
When the Vendetta Task Force launched their attack on 11 February 3076, the ground forces were attacked on approach to the planet by the Jalastar Wings, the Jalastar Defense Force's aerospace fighter contingent, who destroyed two of the incoming DropShips. The remaining Taurian units made groundfall and were opposed by elements of the Jalastar Knights, Jalastar Chariots and Jalastar Grunts as well as a small number of test pilots piloting 'Mechs fresh from the production line, who put the raiders through a hard fight. Grant was one of those test pilots, who joined the battle partway through, piloting a BattleMech fresh of the production line. Despite the casualties inflicted on the Taurian forces, they were able to reach the factories, inflicting millions of C-bills in damage on the facilities and putting them out of production for months.[1]

The 'Mech piloted by Julian Grant during the battle against the Task Force Vendetta troops was a CN9-D Centurion, which hadn't undergone field testing yet and suffered from performance problems as a result.[1]
