Kara's Scorchers was a specialized unit in the Clan Protectorate military.
History[edit]
Kara's Scorchers was the newest unit in the Clan Protectorate. It was founded by Kara Fletcher, a Clan Hell's Horses which came to the Spirit Cats as instructor of the Ozawa Republic Standing Guard to teach infantry how to fight BattleMechs, using flame and swarm attacks. She drew the attention of the Cat's founder, senator Kev Rosse. After being claimed bondswoman, she was adopted into the Spirits and tasked with creating an entire task force which had to capture battlefield equipment, to supply the Cats. The initial Scorchers accomplished their mission, capturing lots of tanks, 'Mechs and enemy troops. However, after the battle for Irian, the Scorchers were disbanded and Rosse assigned Kara to accompany Rikkard Nova Cat in his expedition into the Free Worlds League.[1]
The creation of the Clan Protectorate saw Kara as the most-senior infantry officer into the new state. After reaching the rank of Star Colonel, she and other original Scorchers acted as instructors and opposing force for the Free Worlds League natives which wanted to join the Protectorate forces. Staffed by MechWarriors showing aptitude for incendiary or capture tactics, the Scorchers grew from the ashes, though not as a front-line unit. The transformation of the Scorchers from a training command into an independent task force was almost accidental. In 3147, when the Fourth Regulan Hussars' invaded the planet Marik, almost killed Rikkard Nova Cat during a duel, due to a dishonorable attack of the Hussars commander. Seeing Rikkard falling, Kara ordered the Scorchers to secure Rikkard's 'Mech, laying down suppressive fire with plasma and Inferno fire, Kara personally extracted the Galaxy Commander from his 'Mech's wreckage. After carrying him to safety, the Scorchers withdrew in good order, rearmed and joined the rest of the Shiva Keshik in burning the Hussars to the ground. For their actions, a grateful Rikkard named the Scorchers as the Clan Protectorate independent special tasks unit, answering directly to him. After that, Kara re-formed scorchers trained to make search and rescue, headhunting and battlefield alteration missions. In the IlClan Era, when the League began invading the Wolf Empire's directly, Rikkard gave the Scorchers a new mission: infiltrate on the planet New Olympia and rescue any Spirit cats amongst the Beta Strike Cluster survivors.[2]
