The CCS Khalzan was an Essex-class destroyer in service with the Capellan Confederation Navy during the First Succession War.

History[edit]

In September 2787, the Khalzan was one group of Capellan WarShips that mounted an ambush against Free Worlds League forces in the Wazan system, striking as the Marik Militia forces on the planet were in the process of redeploying to attack worlds within the Capellan Confederation. Striking first at the transport vessels located at the zenith and nadir jump points, the Khalzan and the other ships of her group—two Essex and two Lola IIIs led by the Black Lion-class battlecruiser CCS Zulfiqar—destroyed or captured a number of ships as the Free Worlds League Navy ships in orbit above the planet began in-system jumps in response.[1]

The League WarShips—the battleship FWLS Ragusa and a pair of Lola I-class destroyers, the FWLS Minsck and FWLS Warsaw—were destroyed by the Khalzan and the other Capellan WarShips, but not before the Khalzan had taken enough damage to cause her to be scuttled.[1]

Salvaged and repaired sometime later, the Khalzan was still crewed in October 2838 when it participated in an assault on Andurien.

In 2838, the battles for Andurien's jump points were bloody with Marik's fixed defenses exacting a high price from the invaders before the installations could be silenced. More than forty aerospace fighters as well as six assault DropShips perished in the operation, though losses among troop transports were minimal. The CCS Khalzan and the CCS Chengdu participated in the fight, with the CCS Khalzan taking moderate damage, that forced it to undergo repairs at the zenith point while the main flotilla headed in-system.

The arrival of the Atreus-class battleship FWLS Majestic, the Soyal-class heavy cruiser FWLS Kumbha, and their DropShip escorts threw the operation into disarray. A vicious naval battle erupted in low orbit and destroyed almost a fifth of the Liao forces with the remainder surviving by heading for the planet during the confusing melee.

The CCS Khalzan and the CCS Chengdu perished in the clash, as did the FWLS Majestic. The wreckage of the vessels became a navigation hazard for vessels bound to and from Andurien, finally reentering the atmosphere and burning up in 2843.[2]
