Description[edit]
First fielded by Clan Ghost Bear in 2874 and only the fourth type of OmniFighter built, the Kirghiz is one of the oldest still in Clan service, as well as one of the deadliest. Tipping the scales at a massive 100 tons, it has served as a transport, escort, and DropShip cover, and in any role it serves it is an aging, but fierce, foe to face. The Kirghiz has seen continued improvement over the years, primarily in weapons, but also with the addition of an XL engine. Unlike many other fighters, it uses standard armor, giving more critical space for a wide selection of weapons.[3][7][8]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The Prime variant can bring a wicked arsenal to bear on its foes to the front. Two sidecars are loaded with a Gauss rifle and an ER large laser while an LB-X Autocannon/10 is mounted on the nose, forming the final element of this deadly fighter. An enemy who manages to get on the tail will find a deadly surprise: two Streak SRM-6s and an ER small laser.[3][7][8]
Alternate Configurations[edit]
- Alternate Configuration A
- The A configuration is a long range killer, mounting an extensive weapons suite to slaughter anything in front of it. The nose sports two ER PPCs, which while deadly, utilize a full three-fourths of the fighter's double heat sinks. In addition, each wing carries an LB 2-X AC autocannon and two large pulse lasers while a rear firing turret carries an ER large laser and an ER small laser. Chain fire is necessary, or the fighter runs the very real risk of exploding. BV (1.0) = 2,946[2][3][9], BV (2.0) = 3,368[5][10]
- Alternate Configuration B
- The B configuration is unpopular with pilots, due to the limited ammunition for the five LRM-20 racks. Even three forward facing ER PPCs will not keep the fighter in the fight long. Its foes, however, may not be around to face them. BV (1.0) = 3,480[2][3][11], BV (2.0) = 3,935[5][12]
- Alternate Configuration C
- This configuration is an uncommon design, intended as an Elemental carrier. A UAC/20 is by far the deadliest part of its arsenal, but the two tons of munitions limit its duration in combat. However, it is backed by two ER PPCs and one ER small laser, with pursuit discouraged by two ER large lasers after it has deposited the troops from its 10 tons of cargo space. BV (1.0) = 2,780[2][3] (2,717)[13], BV (2.0) = 3,231[5][14]
- Alternate Configuration D
- This configuration of the Kirghiz mounts a pair of ER large lasers, an ER medium laser, and a medium pulse laser in the nose. The aft of the fighter is protected by an ER small laser, and each wing carries a pair of ATM-12 launchers that share a CASE-protected ammunition bay carrying 12 tons of ammunition. 25 double heat sinks keep the Kirghiz D in the fight. BV (2.0) = 3,649[15]
- Alternate Configuration E
- This configuration provides some limited electronic warfare support, as it's equipped with an active probe and ECM suite. A pair of large pulse lasers are mounted in the nose, while the wings each carry a single HAG/40. BV (2.0) = 4,023[15]
Custom Variants[edit]
- Infiltrator
- Based uppon an original Alternate Configuration C, this variant carried an ECM and Stealth Armor and is also able to carry two points of Battle Armour. It is not explained which weapons are taken out to make this variant.[16]
