History[edit]
Following an unsuccessful attempt to remove a farming community on Cole Harbour, Black Inferno attempted to exact revenge and ambush Nik's Cavaliers on Cavanaugh by replicating the conditions, going so far as to sacrifice a few tanks and 'Mechs to sell the deception and lure the Cavaliers into the port city, where Inferno had been waiting. Though the Cavaliers were able to fight through the trap, it was only part of their operation.[1]
Knowing the Cavaliers' Leopard-class DropShip would have to eventually come down to the planet—either to extract their lance or rescue them—two Inferno aerospace fighters attempted to cripple the Leopard while it was in low orbit; meanwhile, another trap had been set at the port: Koval led the "Phantom Lance" intending to finish off the Cavaliers, already bloodied from earlier fighting. Despite having prepared for weeks for this moment, his team was unable to overcome the Cavaliers lance led by Jake Mason, and he was killed when both of his 'Mech's legs were destroyed under him.[1][2]
BattleMech[edit]
Koval piloted a MAD-3R Marauder.[1]
