Kruger was an officer with the Black Inferno mercenary command.[1]

History[edit]

Black Inferno was after a set of coordinates that had been in the possession of Nikolai Mason and when they did not find it on his 'Mech, which they salvaged after their attack on De Berry in 3015, they assumed it was on the Leopard-class DropShip that escaped. Years later when Nik's Cavaliers came to the successful defense of a farming community on Cole Harbour, Black Inferno spent weeks crafting an operation to exact revenge and ambush the Cavaliers on Cavanaugh by replicating the conditions, going so far as to sacrifice a few tanks and 'Mechs on the ground to sell the deception and lure the Cavaliers into their trap.[1][2]

Captain Kruger had been put in charge of this operation. While Jake Mason and his lance were on Cavanaugh fighting through the ambush, two aerospace fighters targeted the Leopard in orbit. Cavaliers CO Ryana Campbell threw up a screen and took evasive action, and thanks to the modifications Chief Technician Fahad Arazad made on the engines, they were able to outrun the ASFs long enough for Mason to clean up the Inferno forces on the planet. Now at a disadvantage, Black Inferno retreated.[1][2]

Shortly after, Campbell intercepted an encrypted communiqué on the ultra narrowband frequency Black Inferno was using, sent from their leader Andreas Kane to Kruger. The recording detailed Kane's displeasure that the Cavaliers had escaped again, and that he would report back to ComStar Precentor Kenzo Yamata that he failed him by putting his faith in Kruger. Kane then ordered Kruger to return to their base on Xinyang where he would receive swift, though severe, punishment.[1]
