Kurt Blakadar was an officer with the Northwind Highlanders.

History[edit]

Kurt enlisted into the Northwind Highlanders and rose to the rank of Major, commanding a battalion on Stirling's Fusiliers. On that regiment, under Major McFranklin's command, the unit become too little specialized. By 3058, McFranklin's death and replacement by the former Capellan Loren Jaffray caused trouble, both to Craif and to Major Cullen Craig. Jaffray wanted to turn the regiment into a better trained one, and his complete overhaul disgusted both Majors, which complained soundly, both to Jaffray and to his superior, Andrea Stirling, resisting the changes.[1]

Wayside V[edit]

In 3058 Kurt was serving as the commanding officer of Stirling's Fusiliers, Second Battalion in 3058.[2]

After the Fusiliers had been contracted to take Wayside V from the Clan Smoke Jaguar, he, along with Craig, the 14 May, had a meeting with Loren and the unit's Chief Technician. Jaffray discussed with them the changes to the unit, incorporating all available Jump Jets 'Mechs to the regiment. Craig loudly protested it, but Jaffray refused to change his orders. The same day, Craig went to protest directly against colonel Stirling, but she refused to change Loren's orders and gave him all his support.[3] Once the Battle of Wayside (3058) had began, he assisted at a meeting the 3 July. he suggested to make a guerrilla war, but the other officers said than that was impossible. When Jaffray suggested to create a force to draw the Clan Nova Cat forces there, he didn't oppose it, unlike Craig, but seriously studied it.[4] The 9 July, during the battle of the Isthmus, he led his force to a flank maneuver, while the rest of the Highlanders hold the main line. Craig called him repeatedly, but Kurt didn't answer or move until colonel Stirling called him. His charge broke the Jaguars' back.[5] The 22 July, Stirling talked with Kurt about Craig. She feared Craig may have cracked, but he violently argued against it when Blackie gave him his orders to command a rear guard action.[6]

Kurt remained with the Fusiliers' main force, fighting the Jaguars until Jaffray arrived with Nova Cats on their tail, saving them all.[7] After the campaign, the Assembly of Warriors, recognizing Kurt's contribution to the victory, promoted him and put him into Jaffray's former place, while Loren was promoted and put on command of his own regiment, the Northwind Hussars.[8]

3067[edit]

By 3067 Kurt was still Lieutenant Colonel and commanding officer of the Fusiliers command company.[9]

Notes[edit]
